So What’s Next?

2 May

I have some big news that I’m really excited to share with you!!!

I’m moving to Columbia, South Carolina at the end of July to pursue my PhD in Mass Communications at the University of South Carolina. My focus will be mass communications, public health and digital strategies.

I have made some amazing friends, met some awesome people, learned a lot from incredibly talented people and worked with some fantastic people over the years. I will miss Richmond terribly, but I plan on staying in touch.

Suggestions on things to do, people to meet or places to go in Columbia are very, very welcome!

A Week Without Twitter

30 Oct

The gauntlet has been thrown. I’ve issued a personal challenge to myself. Stay off Twitter for a full week (seven days) starting at midnight tonight and ending next Sunday, November 7 at midnight. This means: no logging into Twitter, no lurking, no Twitter notifications and no Twitter app on my phone, desktop and other mobile devices. Yes, I am that serious.

So, I guess the big question is: Why?

The long and the short of it is that I need some time away from 140-character updates. It’s not forever, but I need to regain that pre-Twitter feeling again. The feeling that you don’t know what’s on everyone’s mind or what they’re eating or who they’re with or what they’re drinking. I’ve done a Twitter hiatus before, but only for a weekend–never an entire week. I think that should be enough time.

I will be answering calls, emails, texts and possibly Facebook messages, so if you need to get a hold of me, you can. BUT, no tweeting or direct messaging.

With that being said, I’ll see you in a week, Twitter.

Times They Are A-Changin’

18 Oct

I’ve made a few changes to the blog, including features like a ”tricked out” iPad cover page for mobile interfaces and similar header. Hopefully, this is something you like. I know that I do!!

You’ll also notice that the blog now has my picture on it, which is something that I’ve been dragging my feet to do for quite some time. Unusual for someone who is on several social media platforms, no? Well, if I’m going to commit to writing blog posts on a semi-regular basis, I’d best own it. What better way to do that then slap my face on it, right!?!

Adventures in Cooking

24 Sep

A friend invited me to go with her to a healthy cooking class at Mise En Place earlier today. Of course, I couldn’t help but share a few photos from our adventures today. Our group in the class made chicken eggplant parmesan!

A Few of My Favorite Things

19 Sep

So, did you click on my link thinking that this would be a 300-word plus ode to Sound of Music? Hah! Let’s be clear, this post is definitely not a tribute to the movie. No, this post is about the turning of the season.

When I was younger, winter was my favorite season. Of course, at that time, I wasn’t able to drive yet and loved snow days. These days, I appreciate winter for the cold weather, but not for the snow. Atmospheric water vapor frozen into ice crystals that falls in light white flakes has its place..and it is where I’m not. With that being said, fall is my favorite season of all.

Why? Well, take a look at the list below and you’ll know.

  1. Cooler temperatures.
  2. Football is back with a vengeance every weekend and Monday night. Bye, bye golf!
  3. Lattes. Lattes. Lattes.
  4. The changing of the leaves on the trees. Not the cleaning up of the fallen leaves, mind you. :D
  5. Jackets, scarves, mittens and ballet flats.
  6. The time to perfect your soup recipes.
  7. Apple Cider.
  8. Halloween and Thanksgiving, hello.
  9. Daylight Savings ends November 6. More sleep for me!!
  10. Basketball season is just around the corner. #GoRamsGo

Now that you know what my favorite season is and why, what is yours and why?

Hello Goodbye Hello

17 Sep

Unfortunately, I’ve been quite the slacker when it comes to this blog, but I had a bit of inspiration tonight. I realized that my blog was in dire need of a face lift. It was pitiful and an eye sore; broken code in my widgets, old content and a dated template had taken over. So, what you see now is a newly rejuvenated blog.

Now, on to new content…

You may’ve seen this video circling around online, but I just have to post this. It is everything that an awesome viral video should be — snarky, unexpected, funny, catchy and the adjectives could go on and on. It seems like The Muppets can do no wrong. You’ll find that my love of all things “Muppets” is not new. It is one that has existed for at least a year when they released a series of web videos, including Muppet Lab Experiment 5T832: Ghost Hunt. There is no doubt about where I’ll be on November 23…in the theatre watching the new Muppets movie, of course!

Batman Pug

Okay, I’m not going to sugar coat this for you…this video can get pretty annoying quickly. Watch for yourself and decide, but don’t say I didn’t warn you!!
